On Turning 65

February 6, 2020

In my career, I have witnessed other professional practices, like a law or CPA practice, who have a lead advisor get to the age of retirement – and yet, the person remains in the practice.  In the past, I jokingly referred to this person as “The Grand Old Man”.

As I look into the mirror, to my surprise, I see that I have become The Grand Old Man at Pleasant Wealth.  The last phase of my career is upon me.

Since it’s no secret that I’m not getting any younger, I would expect some suspicious types to be wondering about my retirement. Well, I did turn 65 on February 4, 2020 and have wondered about that as well. But don’t expect me to be retiring any time soon. Here’s why:

  1. I hate shuffleboard.
  2. And TV with mostly badminton or dog shows has so little to offer.
  3. I’d rather be reading, traveling with my adventurous wife, Rita, seeing my children, or visiting with friends over great meals. And I get to do those things as part of my work of helping our wonderful clients and friends.

Sidenote: This is what is so great about our line of work. The strong relationships. Our clients are the best! They are savers who are very kind and content with authentic, regular lives of great impact and ultimate importance. I love our clients.

So, going forward, the young people around me do the analysis. I will provide the expertise and experience. Our clients will continue to receive friendship and dependable advice from all of us.

As “The Grand Old Man” at Pleasant Wealth, I am embracing the new mantle of “Schmoozer” with great vigor and anticipation. If you give me a call, I promise you a very Pleasant Financial Conversation. And don’t expect me to be retiring any time soon.
